Finding Futures is exploring an exciting new idea to meet the needs of more young people with SEND across B&NES and surrounding areas, complementing our highly successful Project SEARCH supported internship programme.
‘Works for You’ is a programme designed to teach you about the world of work, introduce you to different work experiences, develop your independence and prepare you for your next steps towards your future career.
Please take a look at the Works for You pamphlet to learn more. You can also explore the subheadings below for information on the programme:
WHO... is it for?
Young people who:
- Are aged 16 to 24 and who have an EHCP
- Need opportunities to learn about and experience the world of work
- May need extra time and support to prepare for a supported internship
- Would like to enter paid or voluntary employment in the next one to three years
- Might struggle with a mainstream college campus and would benefit from a quieter environment with more support
WHAT... is studied on the programme?
This is a 5-day per week provision. Students will:
- Learn about and experience the world of work through enterprise projects, employability skills learning and hands-on experiences of the workplace
- Progress important maths and English skills
- Experience enrichment activities geared towards their future
- Develop independence in using public transport, managing money, staying safe, personal target setting and more
- Establish the foundations of ‘work readiness’
WHEN... will it start?
We are aiming to begin the programme in September 2026 for the first intake of students.
WHERE... is it based?
The location of this programme will depend on a variety of factors. The likelihood is that it will be in/around Bath, Keynsham or Midsomer Norton; all of these locations have good transport links, and are relatively easy areas to access.
WHY... is Finding Futures developing this offer?
Some young people need a bit more time and specialist support in order to be ready to access a supported internship. Works for You provides time for young people to effectively transition from education-focused outcomes to employment-focused outcomes in a supported, measured, purposeful way.
